Galeria Gniezno gets greener
The shopping centre comprises 18,000 sqm gla and has 46 tenants

POLAND The Galeria Gniezno shopping centre has been awarded a BREEAM In-Use certificate with an ‘Excellent’ rating in two categories: asset performance and building management.

The certificate assesses such aspects as energy, water, transport, management, waste, pollution, health and well-being, land use and environmental impact and materials.

As well as Galeria Gniezno also received high scores in other areas. Under its sustainable development policy, a greenery project is underway that involves planting flower beds and green spaces around the shopping centre with honey producing plants. Facilities for cyclists and motorcyclists are also being added, while LED lighting is to be installed in the car park to reduce electricity consumption and a timer has been installed to minimise the light pollution caused by the internal and external lighting.

“In an era of rising environmental awareness, such systems are of key importance. For us – the management as well as the centre’s manager Apsys and its owner Ezraya Investments – receiving such a high rating represents significant recognition of the work we are doing,” comments Paulina Ostrowska, the director of Galeria Gniezno.

Galeria Gniezno, which was completed in 2005, comprises 18,000 sqm gla and offers 46 brands, including anchor tenants Carrefour, Kino Helios and Jysk.
