PLN 750 mln for research, construction and real estate
The grants can be used to pay for machinery, real estate, patents, licences and other costs

POLAND Applications for innovation grants from this year’s [Badania na Rynek] ‘Market Research’ competition can now be submitted to the Polish Enterprise Development Agency [PARP].

A total pool of PLN 750 mln pool will be granted for R&D work, PLN 70 mln of which will be provided to enterprises in Mazowieckie province. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the call for proposals has been extended and submissions can now be made until May 12th.

The competition is divided into three sections – ‘Market Research – general competition’, ‘Market Research – medium-sized cities’ and ‘Market Research – accessibility plus’, each of which are aimed at fostering the development of new (or improved) products and innovative technological systems. SME companies in Poland that have completed at least one full financial year can apply for the funding. In the previous three years (preceding the submission of the application) their minimum income threshold in a single closed financial year should amount to PLN 600,000 for micro and small enterprises and PLN 1 mln for medium ones. The total investment outlay of the projects can range from PLN 1 mln to EUR 50 mln. Applicants will receive up to 80 pct of their project costs. The grants awarded can go towards the purchase of the machinery and equipment necessary to start production, the purchase of the real estate, to pay for the construction work or the construction of a new production line and halls. They can also be used to cover costs related to applying for patents, licences and other intellectual property rights.

“The opportunity to obtain investment support for the use of renewable energy and the recycling and reuse of waste is a new feature in the general competition and for medium-sized enterprises. We also hope that our entrepreneurs will contribute to the implementation of environmental policy through such projects,” comments Izabela Wójtowicz, the director of the department of implementation of enterprises innovation at PARP.

A separate budget is allocated for each of the three parts of the competition: PLN 550 mln for the general competition, PLN 150 mln for projects in medium-sized cities, and PLN 50 mln for innovative products for the elderly and disabled people.

“The competition increasingly takes into account such factors as the phenomenon of the aging population and the growing accessibility needs. We hope that the projects selected for co-funding will help to remove barriers in physical space, digital reality, products and services offered,” adds Izabela Wójtowicz.
