POLAND Panattoni’s 60,000 sqm logistics project for Amazon in Okmiany near Bolesławiec has a received BREEAM ‘Very Good’ certificate.

The facility, which was completed in H2 2019, has been recognised for such environmental features as its water system, which obtained the highest possible score. In 5 of the 10 categories it was evaluated for, it scored 70 pct or more: 100 pct for ‘water’, 86 pct for ‘waste management’, 78 pct for ‘transport’, 74 pct for ‘energy” and 70 pct for ‘land use’.

The complex has an efficient water-saving system, including for drinking water, which helps maintain the water balance by rainwater harvesting and has been used to create wildflower meadows. An advanced energy-saving system has also been installed and a waste reduction system, enabling 90 pct recovery and the minimisation of contamination from harmful substances. Bus services are also providing for commuting employees, along with electric chargers for environmentally-friendly vehicles and a range of bicycle amenities. The development process was supervised by ecologists to determine the most biodiverse approach for the location.

“This was our seventh project for Amazon in Poland and we are well aware of how important the environmental aspect of the facility is to our customer’s operations. To date, we have provided the e-commerce giant with app. 800,000 sqm of space built in compliance with sustainable development principles. Amazon understands perfectly that approaches that benefit the environment also enhance their process efficiency. We are happy with each collaboration with the company, because each large and complex facility we deliver expands our portfolio of environment-friendly solutions which we can offer to all our customers,” commented Marek Dobrzycki, the managing director of Panattoni.

In Poland the developer’s ‘green”’ portfolio comprises 14 projects with a BREEAM ‘Good’ rating, eight with a ‘Very Good’ rating, and two with LEED ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ certification.
