Dom Braci Jabłkowskich to undergo metamorphosis

The architecture and most of the details of the department store Dom Towarowy Braci Jabłkowskich have survived. The building is in good state but it needs modernisation and renovation work said Marek Tryzybowicz, architect, design director, Bose International Planning & Architecture. // Some technical changes to the building are essential. We need to fully utilise the building and adjust it to the current retail real estate market.
The family comapny Dom Towarowy Bracia Jabłkowscy is working now on the general concept, mainly for the retail section, said Marta Jabłkiowska, marketing director at the comapny, also a member of the inheritors family Jablkowscy. "After this the next steps will be the financing and the architectural design. Realistically, we should be celebrating the grand opening in two years’ time. Additionally, we are owners of the Chmielna 19 tenement and are planning to create a passage between the two buildings, so one would be able enter the building from both Bracka and Chmielna streets. The backyard between the two buildings will be covered with a glass roof. An additional 100 sqm will be created on every stage on glass structures built above the yard. Now, the building at Bracka 25 has a basement that will be turned into a lower ground floor. The floor of the first floor, the floor will be removed, opening and lighting up the space below. Everything located on the underground level will then be directly visible from the entrance. The basement will also be deepened". "Probably a fresh food market and delicatessen will be located on the lower ground floor. The second and third floor will be dedicated to fashion and design. Our intention for the department store is that it will host Polish design and such fashion brands that have so far been unavailable in Poland. The fourth floor is designated for non-commercial purposes," said Paweł Nazaruk, project coordinator at Dom Towarowy Bracia Jabłkiowscy. The office space will be located on the fifth and sixth floors. The department store will feature also a roof café, just as it did 100 years ago – the Café under the Sun. This is likely to open sooner than in two years’ time, revealed Marta Jabłkowska.
