POLAND The city of Warsaw has announced a competition for the architectural concept of an educational complex consisting of a kindergarten and a school to be built on ul. Zaruby in Warsaw’s Ursynów district.

The complex is to comprise a kindergarten for 200 children, a primary school with 16 classes for 420 pupils and a canteen section servicing both buildings. “We are looking for an extraordinary design developed to be a friendly space, which is particularly important for a school. We would like the quality and the vision to be the main assessment criteria rather than the lowest price. And this is an idea we’re going to support,” says Marlena Happach, the director of the Architectural and Urban Planning Bureau. The entries will be assessed by a panel of architects and educational professionals. The main assessment criteria will be the attractiveness and functionality (70 pct) the costs and running costs including future maintenance (30 pct). The architect with the winning design will be awarded a prize of PLN 40,000 and will be invited to negotiations for the further development of the project. The runner-up will receive PLN 20,000 and the third prize will be PLN 10,000. Distinctions may be awarded of up to PLN 10,000. Those wishing to enter the competition must apply by September 1st 2017 to the administrative support centre of the Architectural and Urban Planning Bureau on ul. Marszałkowska with final designs to be submitted by October 6th 2017.
