In Design gets designing in Business Garden

25 July 2017

POLAND A showroom office designed by In Design was opened in the Business Garden complex in Warsaw.

Their main purpose was to design functional and adaptive spaces. As a result, the floor area was divided into zones: individual work, meetings, regeneration and integration. The areas are interwoven creating an office that corresponds to the various activities and needs of employees. “This model of arrangement is known as Activity Based Workplace. Instead of working mostly at desks or in conference rooms, employees can choose from ad hoc meeting places, areas for quiet work, telephone booths or project work areas. They decide themselves where they want to work and where they will perform a given task best,” explains Agata Mróz, a sociologist from the In Design studio. The individual work zone includes quiet areas as well as team work spaces. There is a large conference room as well as numerous meeting and informal collaboration rooms in with project tables as well as smaller rooms with easily assembled furniture. The so-called amphitheatre with its semi-circularl seating arrangement is another interesting element of the interior. It can be a venue for all kinds of gatherings, presentations, company events as well as project meetings and everyday discussions among employees. “Inappropriately arranged meeting areas that result in poorly used space is one of the issues older offices struggle with. This is confirmed by the results of In Design studies of offices before a change in their arrangement. Furthermore, our studies show that an insufficient amount of space for small meetings of up to five people is another issue and these are the most frequent type of meetings,” she explains. Much attention has also been paid to the rest areas, ie the chill out zone and the kitchen. These areas tighten social bonds and promote the informal exchange of information.
