Kościerzyna bypass opens
The bypass has two lanes in one direction and one lane in the other
POLAND An 8 km bypass for Kościerzyna outside Gdańsk has been opened, the construction process has taken three years in an investment of PLN 168 mln.

The project was carried out using the ‘design-and-build’ method by a consortium of Strabag group firms. It has two lanes in one direction and one lane in the opposite direction (2+1), while there are also four road junctions, ecological culverts, a rain water drainage system, precipitation rainwater cleaning units, retention tanks and infiltration tanks. A 122m viaduct has been built above a local railway track as well as a number of other overpasses. Acoustic panels have been erected and greenery has been planted. The project also involved the redevelopment and construction of access roads.

Kościerzyna has been one of the most congested towns in Pomerania due to being at the intersection of major transit routes. The new road will bypass the town from the south.
