LATVIA Merko Ehitus subsidiary Merks and Mitnija are building the Akropole shopping centre in Riga in a contract worth EUR 100.2 mln with completion scheduled for January 2019.

Akropolis subsidiary M257, which operates in Vilnius, Klaipeda and Šiauliai, is the developer of the project, the completion of which has already been delayed by two years. Merks is the general contractor, while the contract with subcontractor Mitnija is worth 50 pct of the order. Site preparation was begun in November 2016 by Latvian construction company Skonto Būve construction company.

The centre will have a total area of 98,000 sqm, 9,000 sqm of which will be for offices. It will have 200 stores and catering outlets as well as a cinema, a bowling alley and a play centre for children. The mall is being developed on the site of a former factory which dates back to 1832.
