Oxford Street tops high street rankings

EUROPE London's Oxford Street is the most frequently visited European high street with over 13,500 people visiting its stores every hour, according to BNP Paribas Real Estate.

The consultancy claims that Europe’s most popular streets are in the UK, Germany, Spain and France. The second most popular street in the ranking is Kaufingerstraße in Munich (with 12, 832 visitors) followed by Calle de de Preciados in Madrid (with 12, 292 visitors) and Zeil in Frankfurt (with 10,280 visitors). Avenue des Champs Elysées in Paris (with 10,277 visitors) is the fifth. Two high-streets in Barcelona came sixth and seventh, one in Madrid is eighth, another in London is ninth and the tenth most popular shopping street is also in Madrid.

The most frequently visited luxury high streets are in France, Spain, the UK and Denmark and frequently these streets also see a high concentration of tourist traffic. The first five streets in the luxury category are: Avenue des Champs Elysées in Paris, Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona (with 10 132 visitors), Regent Street in London (with 9,252 visitors), Amagertorv in Copenhagen (with 8,094 visitors) and Østergade also in Copenhagen (with 7,494 visitors).

Warsaw’s most popular high street is ul. Marszałkowska street, followed by Nowy Świat and Plac Trzech Krzyży. In the study BNP Paribas Real Estate looked at streets in Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna, Warsaw and Zurich.
