Musketeers all for one – and profits

EUROPE Société Les Mousquetaires (SLM) – known as Grupa Muszkieterów in Poland – a group of independent businesses operating supermarket and DIY chains, generated a total turnover from its Intermarché and Netto chains in Europe of EUR 25.4 bln (excluding from petrol stations).

This represents an increase of 1.8 pct y-o-y (or EUR 33.5 bln and an increase of 4 pct, if petrol stations are included). Its Bricomarché and Brico Cash chains recorded turnover of EUR 2.6 bln over the year. Intermarché now has 2,933 sales outlets across Europe, while Bricomarché has 664 outlets. The stores have a combined area of 5.8 mln sqm.

“The group’s growth in 2017 is confirmation of the strength of a business model built on the potential of independent businesses. In 2018 we plan to maintain this momentum, increasing the business efficiency of our branches. Our list of goals also includes the gradual introduction of modern sales tools, such as e-commerce platforms and mobile apps,” explains Didier Duhaupand, the president of SLM.
