ESTONIA The Estonian Academy of Arts (EAA) has appointed Astlanda Ehitus to renovate the Rauaniidi building at Kotzebue 1/Põhja pst 7 in Tallinn, which is to become the new home of the acadamy.

Seven bids were received in the tender, all of which met the procurement criteria and so the winner was chosen on the lowest cost basis.

The work includes the demolition of the wings that were added to the historic listed building under communist rule as well as the construction of new sections to the building. The design, which was chosen in an open architectural competition, is by Joel Kopli, Koit Ojaliiv, Juhan Rohtla and Eik Hermann, all of whom graduated from the EAA.

On completion, the six-storey building will have a heigh of over 40 m and a net useable area of 12,302 sqm with a gba of 3,748.6 sqm. According to the current work schedule, the building will be put to use in the autumn of 2018.

The contract is worth EUR 16.2 mln (including VAT) and the work is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the ASTRA programme.

Astlanda Ehitus is a construction company that has been responsible for building and renovating many prestigious and large-scale developments across the country, including the Hedon spa, the Creative Hub, the University of Tartu’s Institute of Physics, the Tallinn Bus Station, the Tallinn School of Service and the Hiiu Ravikeskus, Mustamäe Keskus shopping centre.
