EIB invests in Posejdon

POLAND Porto has been granted a EUR 29 mln loan from the European Investment Bank and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego to finance its Posejdon mixed use complex in Szczecin.

The loan was awarded because th development is to be the first NZEB (Nearly-Zero Emission Building) in Poland that meets the strict ecological standards that all buildings will have to meet after January 2021. Compared to a similar building constructed with traditional techniques, the building has 76 pct lower CO2 emissions. The project was presented at the COP24 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Katowice

“Posejdon is constructed in a place well known to every citizen of Szczecin, which has waited very long to regain its former glory,” said Marcin Woźniak, a member of the management board of Porto. “We have developed an ambitious and modern project based on three stable pillars: hotels of Marriot, the largest global hotel network, modern offices, and a small, but well-conceived commercial section.”

Together with our long-term partner BGK and out new client and investor – Porto, we are pleased to present the Polish project Posejdon right here, during COP 24 conference organised by the United Nations in Katowice. This project is an example of EIB’s support for pro-ecological city solutions in Europe as well as our fight against climate change through financing of energy-efficient projects, in this case, in the real property sector.”

The project will use a geothermal energy system with over 900 highly efficient, inverter heat pumps. The electricity for operating the entire system will be generated by 342 photovoltaic panels on the roof. Grey water will be used to flush the toilets and the project is to be awarded BREEAM certification with a rating of either ‘Excellent’ or ‘Very Good’. The 50,000 sqm centre will be completed at the end of 2019 and will include 18,000 sqm of office space,12,000 sqm of hotel space and 4600 sqm of retail. The building will also be the largest congress centre in Szczecin with six conference and banquet halls and a spacious foyer with a total capacity of 1000 people. The centre will also have an underground car park with 299 parking spaces and racks for 100 bicycles.
