Gdynia goes intermodal
The 11,000 sqm warehouse is the building to be started for the Intermodal Logistics Centre
POLAND A high storage warehouse is under construction at Port Zachodni (the Western Harbour) in Gdynia.

The investor behind the 11,000 sqm project, which should be completed in Q4 2019, is the Port of Gdynia while the contractor is Budimex. This is the first of the buildings to be constructed for the port’s Intermodal Logistics Centre.

“The warehouse under construction will be one of the key elements of the Intermodal Logistics Centre. Apart from the warehousing, the 3 ha area will also feature storage yards and the necessary road and rail infrastructure,” reveals Grzegorz Dyrmo, the vice-president of the Management of the Port of Gdynia (ZMPG).

The first warehouse has been designed to be 10.5 m in height and will comprise four separate storage chambers. It is to be used for storing highly processed groupage goods. A photovoltaic installation will be installed over the entire surface of the roof. In addition to the warehousing space, there will be office and social rooms as well as road infrastructure. The reinforced prefabricated structure has already been completed.

EU funding has been provided for the project., with the contract being worth PLN 53 mln to Budimex.
