Port Gdynia station to grow

Eurobuild CEE 27 March 2019
POLAND Polish State Railways [PKP] has appointed Budimex to extend its Gdynia Port railway station in a contract worth PLN 1.487 bln net.
The project is intended to significantly increase the freight capacity of the Port of Gdynia. The work includes the laying of new track with new signals and communication equipment as well as overhead cabling with Budimex to also be responsible for all the subcontracting documentation. When the contract was first put out to tender in June 2018, Torpol put in the lowest bid of over PLN 1.8 bln, however the gross value of the work had been estimated at around PLN 1.1 bln and the contract was not awarded. The second time the contract was tendered Budimex’s bid was accepted despite it still being over-budget. Budimex now has 30 months to complete the work. The project is being financed in large part from EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), with the funding being conditional on the project being completed before the end of 2020.
