Budimex to build Orlen R&D centre
The centre for research into fuels and petrochemicals should be ready by the end of next year

POLAND Budimex is to build a research and development centre for PKN Orlen in the Płock Industrial and Technological Park (PPPT), which the company and the city each own 50 pct stakes in.

The contract for the EPC format (turnkey) project is worth PLN 167 mln net and should be carried out by the end of 2020. The total investment costs come to app. PLN 184 mln.

Daniel Obajtek, the CEO of Orlen, has revealed that the centre will be for research into fuels and the petrochemicals research, including those under its own patents. The most important section of the centre will be the app. 2,000 sqm hall for mapping and pilot programmes, which will be fitted with research and pilot installations. The utilities and gas supplies necessary for the research will be connected to the hall.

The R&D centre will also have environmentally friendly installations, such as electricity generated using its own photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine. A charging station for electric vehicles will be provided capable of charging three cars at a time.

Płock Industrial and Technological Park has been operating since 2004 on an investment area of ​​app. 60 close to Orlen’s refinery, petrochemical plant and headquarters to the north of the town.
