Wrocław goes greener
A total of 131 bins with rubbish sensors are being placed in Wrocław
POLAND “Together with Tauron Polska, Energia and Ericsson, we’ve launched a series of experimental projects – we are currently completing the installation of 131 litter bins with sensors on ul. Powstańców Śląskich,” writes Jacek Sutryk, the mayor of Wrocław on his Facebook page.

The new bins send alerts when full and are being installed along ul. Powstańców Śląskich from Południowy park to ul. Świdnicka in Wrocław. “This is an experimental project. We’re using a special platform to manage the bins and keep our public spaces cleaner. The system also gives us the information to decide where we need to increase the number of bins and where we need fewer,” says Robert Bednarski, the director of the SmartCity for the city of Wrocław.

The city has also started a car sharing service with Hybrid Toyota Yaris and Toyota Corolla cars. Currently 100 vehicles are part of the scheme with more soon to be added.

“Because of carsharing some people might give up owning a car and someone else might decide not to buy an old diesel. This decision will let others breathe cleaner air,” says Katarzyna Panek, the spokesperson for Panek CarSharing.
